Timing Belt Pulleys

When slippage is not permitted by the specifications of your belt drive system, synchronous components such as a timing belt and timing pulley combination should be used. Maxtran® offers the right synchronous timing pulley for any need. The teeth of timing pulleys are precisely matched to the tooth profile and pitch of matching timing belts, giving them a resemblance to gears. The tooth grooves are machined round to fit the HTD timing belts in belt pitch sizes of 3M (3 millimeters), 5M (5 millimeters), 8M (8 millimeters) and 14M (14 millimeters). They are available in HTD, or High Torque Drive, type. With flat bottom teeth that match all conventional timing belts in the same pitch as an HTD belt, the second type of timing pulley is the trapezoidal tooth timing pulley. Using an STS, or Super Torque Synchronous timing pulley—a cross between a trapezoidal and an HTD profile—allows for higher power and faster speed combinations. Its round tooth and flat tooth profile at the bottom enable the pulley to operate at a torque capacity of up to 50%. Maxtran® carries thousands of sizes of pulleys in imperial/inch sizes, including size H (1/2" pitch), size L (3/8" pitch), size XL (1/5" pitch). Everything you require to understand your timing belt is represented by the standard part identification nomenclature. A 1396-8M-30 timing belt number, for instance, indicates: The belt length in millimeters is 1396. The belt width in millimeters is 30. The belt pitch in millimeters is 8M, meaning that this belt has an 8mm pitch. The belt pitch is measured from the center line of each tooth to the neighboring teeth. Our pulleys are available in three different material types—aluminum, cast iron, and steel—and can be readily rebored to any required custom shaft size, timing pulleys are adaptable for a wide range of applications. The crucial synchronous drive pulley is used in almost all automobile power transmission applications; however, flanged and non-flanged timing pulleys are ideal for industrial machinery such as conveyors, pumps, and other machinery.
