Insert Bearings

In an already mounted bearing housing, insert bearings take the place of worn-out or damaged bearings. They have an enlarged inner ring with a locking mechanism for easy shaft installation, and are also known as Y-bearings.  To prevent misalignment between the shaft and the bearing housing, spherical insert bearings feature an outer ring with a slightly rounded contour. When corrosion is not an issue, they are employed in general-purpose applications. To make room for a retaining ring, a groove is bored into the outer ring of cylindrical insert bearings. The fasteners that secure the bearing in place and act as a shoulder to stop it from moving are called retaining rings.
