General Purpose Motors
All-purpose Electric motors that transform AC power into torque—which is a measurement of a rotating or twisting force—are referred to as AC motors or induction motors. These motors are used to drive mechanical loads. They can be used to power blowers, conveyors, pumps, and machine tools. With a lower beginning torque and lesser efficiency than other AC motors, split-phase NEMA frame general-purpose AC motors have a softer startup. capacitor-start In order to get more torque at starting, NEMA frame general purpose AC motors use a capacitor to supply extra power. Capacitor-start and run NEMA frames for general purposes Single-phase AC motors employ a capacitor to boost power during starting for more torque and another capacitor to increase running efficiency. Without the need for start or run capacitors, three-phase NEMA frame general purpose AC motors and three-phase IEC metric motors run on efficient three-phase electricity with high torque.
